Biography

Notables Project
Pope Anastasius III di Roma is Notable.

Anastasius was born in Rome, Papal States.[1] Lucian, a Roman nobleman is sometimes recognized as his father, though some sources believe he is the illegitimate son of Pope Sergius III.[2]

He became pope in June or September 911 and his pontificate ended in June or August 913.[1] He was buried in St Peter's Basilica.[2]

Platina[3] states:

Anastasius the Third, a Roman, came to the chair at the time when Landulphus, prince of Beneventum, fought a fierce battle with the Greeks, and defeated them, in Apulia. ...
This Pope we may commend in this one instance, that he did not persecute with ignominy and scandal the memory of any of his predecessors; for he lived quietly and soberly, and had nothing chargeable upon him that was blameworthy.
